I also had a similar install problem, however the log did indicate a failed install, but with not much in the way of what the problem was. In my case I resolved it by uninstalling .NET 2 (I did not uninstall previous version, .NET 1.1). This allowed BCM to first install its own .NET fixes and then continue with a successful install.
