I see the exact same thing. I also think it has something to do with certain
extra characters in an email field, like when emails show up like this:

Smith, Joe [joe.smith@abc.com]

It doesn't seem to matterif you even have that exact syntax in your linking
form either. Would love to hear from an MVP here.
